Road Coach

This type of harness was created in the XIX century for Mail Coaches and Park Drags, carriages used for long journeys with several people and relative luggage on board.
Since the roads were so rough at the time this type of harness had to be strong, easy to use and safe. These carriages used for service were equipped with many spare parts, such as collars and traces for safety purposes.
Traditionally this harness was completely of black leather with a London coloured collar. The brow band was red and black with rectangular designs to be better seen at night.
The hardware is round in polished brass, the hames are in stainless steel, therefore very resistant, and brass plated. They are characteristic because the left hames are shorter than the right ones and they are joined by a stainless steel chain so they can be fit on another collar if necessary.
For further sturdiness the collar frame has extra padding, the traces are 44 mm large and they have four seams and the loops are closer and more numerous than on other harnesses.
The first Road Coach harness made by the Moirano saddlery was commissioned by Mr. Alex Sieber, an international judge from Switzerland, who gave the instructions to make this type of harness following models built in the 1800s.

Carrick pompe

The Curricle is a carriage especially designed for a pair of horses. It was in fashion in the early nineteenth century. Even though it had only two wheels, it was perfectly balanced and light for the horses. The weight of the Curricle was distributed over the bar situated on the horses saddles while the balance was assured by the girth.
The Moirano saddlery is proud to have designed a harness for the American Cocking Cart, which is a turnout of a two-wheeled carriage driven by three horses attached to two bars, all balanced by a stainless steel bar fixed on the saddles of the two offside horses.
This turnout triggered many a discussion at the "Feria de Avril" in Seville in 2008. This harness also played an important role for Mr. Beretta in winning the Solera Trophy and the first prize of the "potencia" category

The Americain harness

The harness for "Americain" is one of the lightest made by the Moirano saddlery, but also very elegant. In the past it was used with carriages such as Spider, Buggy and Americain. The purpose of this harness was to highlight the quality of the horse which was often a Hackney pony, renowned by horse lovers for its spectacular posture.
The harness for Americain made by Moirano was planned to guarantee a light-weighed turnout and to attract the attention to the horse's behaviour; for this reason many of the components are tubular, a mark of distinction.
Our photo gallery has the picture of a harness for one horse, but a tandem is often used for this type of turnout.
